Hi Joan,

I find that my blood glucose is affected by everything; meals, medication,
exercise, everything. So to manage my bg, I have to track everything.
Conflicting suggestions from my diabetes nurse about the carb content of my
diet made me look into the Glycemic Index. Since I've started paying
attention to the GI of foods, my bg's have been more consistent, sometimes
within one or two points of each other.

My suggestion is to track what and when you eat, when you exercise, when you
medicate, etc. After you gather a couple of days of data, you may be able to
see a pattern and be able to make appropriate changes. Even if you can't
make heads nor tails of the information, your doctor may be able to.

The second part of my suggestion is to become familiar with the glycemic
<!--more-->
index and substitute low GI foods for the high GI foods that may be in your
diet.

Good luck.

Roy

Hi everyone:

My name is Joan and I need help badly. I am on byetta 10 u. My blood
sugar numbers are out of whack. I am having numbers higher than I ever
had before. Today, after eatingbreakfast, my number was 345. It took
all day and night to come down. When it finally came down, it went to
121 and then to 80.

Please give me any suggestions. By the way, I am having trouble eating
and also have hypoglycemic attacks that takes almost an hour to go up.

I am also having trouble contacting my endocrinologist. Left 2
messages and she never called back.

thanks
Joan

Joan, if I were you, I would write down everything I ate, what meds I
took and the times I took them. Plus, test, test, test. This may give
you a better idea of what causes your highs and the crashes.

Sometimes, it's just crazy-making. One day for dinner, I had ravioli,
and a blueberry muffin. 2 hrs later I crawled into the bathroom to test
and it was 57. I crawled into the kitchen, and at that point, my dh knew
I was heading south and brought me two more muffins and a chocolate chip
cookie. A few days later, I had dinner that included a piece of homemade
bread, and I tested two hours later at 243. Aargh!

I'm now rethinking the Lantus and wondering if I shouldn't try the
extended release Metformin to help things go smoother.
