Hello

Tuesday, December 16th, 2003

Hi. My name is Tammie and I am new here. I just started Byetta three
weeks ago and have been looking for a group such as this. This is my
second try on Byetta and so far so good.

To tell you a little about myself: I am 40, a mother of two, live in VA
but originally from SC, I have been diagnosed for 8 years, and recently
had to drop out of college due to level problems and stress.

I look forward in meeting each of you.

Tammie

Hi All,
Just like to know if it is necessary to discontinue Byetta before an extraction
as is recommended for some other oral diabetic meds.
Thank you for your reply.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Nausea Experience

Saturday, December 13th, 2003

Roy,

I was wondering the same thing about the coffee. I am not having a
real bad time with byetta but occasionally, I will get some nausea,
very quickly. I usually take a pepcid a/c and I am fine. But, I was
connecting it to the coffee, but it is not happening all the time.
Thanks for the info.

Dale

Once-weekly Byetta formulation enters comparator trial.

<Snip>
The 30-week open-label, non-inferiority study will assess whether the
once-weekly long-acting release formulation of the drug is at least as
effective in improving glucose control as twice-daily Byetta.

Newbie update

Wednesday, December 10th, 2003

Hi all,

Before I decided to get serious about my diabetes management my physician
assistant scheduled an appointment with the diabetes management clinic,
which I went to yesterday. It was really pretty underwhelming, as I am
pretty well informed about diabetes and nutrition and foot care, etc. I was
actually a little frustrated that almost all of the various people I spoke
with (nurse, dietitian, pharmacologist, physical therapist, physician, and a
nutrition intern), none of whom I had ever met before, all prefaced their
introduction with "so you’re here to get started on insulin." Which was
absolutely not why I was there, though I was aware it would be a topic of
discussion. I was frankly a little pissed about this, but I tried to set it
aside.

Basically, it was kind of a tag-team approach, I’d meet with one, they’d go

STarting Byetta/ Back from the dietian

"Is 45 carbs a meal to much?"

You are asking the question backwards. First determine a post meal number
at the 2 hour mark as your goal that best gets you close to the normal a1c
range. Then adjust types and amounts of food that produce that goal. A
national endo group says a max of 140 at 2 hours, a similar european endo
group says 135, while many diabetics shoot for 120 or less. Remember, the
a1c is the final answer and the post meal number that gets it for you is
the real meal to meal answer to your question. Just as a thumbnail
measure, an a1c of 5 is an average of all the day’s swings of around 100.
