Hi....
Gauge has to do with the diameter or thickness of the needle... The bigger
the gauge, the thinner the needle. The other measurement is the length. So
the Nova fine is bigger than your needle Signe, but just a hair bigger, you
probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference in the diameter. I am
going to give it a try.

Demetria-Beth

I am not too sure how the sizes go in thickness. It is a little longer. I
do not look at it. I just inject. Mind over matter, can't
look at needle lengths, it upsets me. lol I think it is more
comfortable. Don't know why, unless the other one was not getting into
the fatty tissue? I think that is where it is suppose to go. lol
This needle I think is longer but thinner. I am not to good on this stuff.
<!--more-->
Maybe someone with more knowledge on the needle sizes can explain it. Like
I said I think it is more comfortable to me.

Signe,

I am using NovoFine 30 (30 gauge x 1/3" (8mm)

The only problem is it does not fit my lantus pen. I do not know why,
but it seems to be too big.

Sandi,

Someone on the list a couple weeks ago mentioned that they changed
needle size and started to lose weight. I went to my doctor and asked
her to change my needle to the size that came with byetta. Although, I
have been sick the past couple weeks with bronchitis, I am feeling good
now. The only problem I have is nausea. I have also lost 7lbs. I am
not hungry. When I was real sick, I still ate, so I am not sure if I
lost the weight because of illness or else the different needle size
and byetta is making me have the nausea.( I only had a little nausea
when I first started byetta in February but it stopped) I will
continue with this needle size and if I continue to have the nausea and
lose weight, then it does make a difference on the needle size. I will
let everyone know as the days go on.

<!--more-->
You may want to try a different size needle.

Hi Tara-
Your BG at 350 to 500 is at the dangerous level, and I, too would urge
you not to wait til Jan to see a dietician. Is there a nurse or doctor
at your college that can help you? Byetta in combination with oral
drugs should evetually drop your BG to normal range, i.e. close to 100
or thereabouts (every person is different). Once your doctor has
selected the right mix of meds you can easily integrate this stuff into
your schedule. A healthy diet with carb control will help you, too.
But I agree with the other posters-you must NOT wait to get help. You
can control this disease with the right advisors.
-Good luck!

Tara,

I am very concerned for you. Does your doctor know how high your
blood sugars are? How come they stopped all insulin if they think
you are type 1? That is criminal!! I can imagine how awful you feel
when your sugars are so high. Drink plenty of water because high
sugars will dehydrate you VERY much. Byetta or not, those high
sugars will lead to ketoacidosis. write your blood sugars down and
fax to your doctor and insist on seeing him. I hope your PCP has
some clue about diabetes. You will need to learn how to count
carbohydrates in your foods to match with your insulin if you start
back on it. It seems byetta alone is NOT helping you. Ask if you can
fax your sugars to the Joslin clinic even though they cannot see you
yet. My suggestion is try to get an appt. with the dietition there
too. They could help you in the interim. You are young and new to
<!--more-->
diabetes and you need guidance. Please insist you get it before you
get so sick you end up in the hospital. I don't mean to scare you
but you cannot function in school or otherwise when your sugars are
so high. I'm sure your vision is suffering too! This is all
controllable with the right tools. If you need insulin I highly
suggest you ask about an insulin pump. It will give you so much
freedom. You will be so happy you did. Please feel free to e-mail
me privately.

Check out these sites. There is much information out there. Read all
you can.

Take care and good luck!

Hi Tara,

Welcome to the group. On the home page there is a link for files.
There is a lot of information about byetta that has been collected from
this group.
Some people take byetta right before their meal. Some 1/2 hour 45 min.
1 hr. Everyone is different the way they tolerate it. If you took
the byetta and then ate and got nausea and vomiting, try taking it 1/2
before see if the timing of taking it helps. I only needed to use
pepcid when I first started on it. But there are tips there for you to
read. Sleepyness seems to be common thing when starting byetta. I
was very sleepy and I remember others too. As for food, I eat my
regular diet. Byetta is suppose to make you not eat as much. If you
eat too much food that could be a reason you would get sick to your
stomach. My doctor said eat less food than you did before you started
<!--more-->
byetta.

Hope that helps
Dale

Actually my son was seven pounds. I had toxemia and that was what kept him
