Stopping meds for dental work
Sadiqa,
I can only answer for myself, but (pre-Byetta) I had a tooth extraction, and
NO one, including the oral surgeon, told me to stop my diabetes medication.
The oral surgeon’s main concern was that my blood sugars were controlled,
and we tested my BG before the anesthesia and extraction. At the time, I was
taking metformin, Avandia and glipizide.
You may want to contact either your dentist or your doctor, (or both), and
ask them.

What special precautions should I follow?
(there are many listed)
a.. if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or
dentist that you are taking glyburide.
However, it doesn’t say why. I was chatting with Rebecca and she mentioned
that she had heard that Glucophage was to be discontinued because of its
possible reaction to the anesthesia. So, I suppose I should pick a dentist,
call and tell them I’m a diabetic, my meds and that I may need an extraction or
root canal and ask if there are meds to discontinue before even coming in.
Hmmm, most places don’t even want all that info and just say, "Come in and see
the doctor".
Ok, I’ll let you know how it goes later in the day. Thanks for your input.

(and procrastination does not decrease the worry)
