OT JOKE ABOUT NURSES

Subject: Damn Nurses

My yearly checkup

I went to the doctor for my yearly physical. The nurse
starts with certain basics.

How much do you weigh?" she asks.

"115," I say.
The nurse puts me on the scale. It turns out my weight
is 140.

The nurse asks, "Your height?" "5 foot 6," I say.

Amylin, Lilly, Alkermes Start Trial On Diabetes Drugs

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
March 24, 2006 7:42 a.m.

Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AMLN), Eli Lilly & Co. (LLY) and
Alkermes Inc. (ALKS) initiated a comparator clinical trial on long-
acting release, or LAR, versions of Byetta injections in patients
with type 2 diabetes.

The study on Byetta, a form of Exenatide, is designed to generate
safety and effectiveness data for use in a new drug application, the
companies said.

The 30-week study, with about 300 participants, will assess whether

Marsha - re: beading on needle

Sunday, November 23rd, 2003

I watched the needle go in, held down the plunger for a count of 10 and yet
there was that bead of clear liquid. Very strange.

I notice that when I turn the clicker to 5 that it starts beading up liquid
on the needle tip - wonder if it is slightly defective? The box was slightly
crushed and some of the shipment that went to the store was totally ruined
by the shipper (crushed) but my pen actually appears okay.

This isn’t unusual. You are still getting the dose, so don’t worry.

reflected by the number of conflicting attitudes she can bring to bear on the

newbie intro and a question about getting a prescription for Byetta

Monday, November 10th, 2003

I’m skimming through older posts, and ordinarily I’d lurk a bit (and
definitely read more thoroughly through the old posts) before asking a
question like this, but I have an appointment at a diabetes clinic on Monday
and would like some ammunition before then. And gosh you guys are prolific
posters.

I was diagnosed about 7 years ago and have pretty much spent the time in
denial. I’ve taken the medications prescribed (all oral so far) but that’s
about all I did except for spurts of diet and exercise. So far I’ve avoided
complications (that we know of), but the writing’s on the wall unless I do
something about it now, so I’m pretty committed right now. I’m very
overweight (BMI above 40). My last A1C was 9% and I’m sure the specialists
will want to put me on insulin. I don’t want it, but will do it if
necessary. I would rather talk to them about Byetta first, though. The
thing is, I am a medical transcriptionist at the same hospital and I have

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Avandia or Actos?

Friday, November 7th, 2003

Edwina,

I went to the website Medscape.com someone posted a little more than a
week ago. It listed possible drug interactions with byetta.
Lisinipril was one listed. Digoxin, Lovastatin, and acetaminophen. I
think the acetaminophen, just means the effects are delayed or
something like that. I take tylenol because that is all my stomach
allows me to ingest. But, I wonder if you got a reaction because of
the byetta? You have to register on the site but it is free.

Fwd: types of diabetic medications available and where they work (

Wednesday, November 5th, 2003

Sandra,

The below information was taken from a book given to me at diabetic
education by Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, Inc. I think they make Riomet
liquid metformin.
This is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always
follow the treatment recommendations of a qualified healthcare
professional.

Dale

Avandia and Actos are insulin sensitizers, they work on body’s cells
(e.g., muscle cells)
TZDs treat insulin resistance, a major cause of type 2 diabetes. by
reducing insulin resistance, tzds allow the body’s own insulin to work

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Diabetic and being sick

Tuesday, November 4th, 2003

Rebecca,

I am not a doctor and I do not mean giving this information as medical
advice. I am posting this information from a sick day book, I received
from my diabetic educator, from Ascensia. Maybe this information can
help your husband. I would seek medical advice right away especially
because I was in a foreign country.

Check your blood sugar every four hours around the clock. It tells you
to check your keytones too. I am not sure if he has that with him.

Drinking enough fluids is extremely important, since dehydration can
make your illness worse. If you are losing fluids due to diarrhea,
fever, or vomiting, or you’re drinking less than usual or urinating
more than usual, you are at risk of becoming dehydrated. As a general

Tuesday, November 4th, 2003

Hello MarshaI am now on Actos , was on Avandia and seen it was bad if you had
any Macular Degeneration. So i told the Dr. to give me Actos again. I have been
hearing that it is bad for weight gain or swollen feet. Well my ankles are very
badly swollen. So any ideas what meds. i can ask the DR. for instead?
