Diabetic and being sick
Hello. Have a question about being sick. My husband is in United Arab
Emirites. He ate some Gulf Shrimp last night. Its been super hot there.
This morning (its 12 hours difference, so that is NOW) and started
throwing up. He doesn’t know what to do, and i don’t either.
He is type 2 on glucophage and actos. Should he take his pills if
nothing is staying in his stomach? he’s trying to eat crackers and drink
lots of water, which he does anyway. He’s in a hotel and has no way to
pick up medicine if needed to begin with. i’m just at a loss. any ideas
welcome.
Thanks.

If he can’t keep his meds down it’s useless to take them. Make sure he
keeps hydrated….tell him to drink lots of water or diet ginger ale.

I would recommend you take him to a walk in clinic. If he’s gotten food
poisoning, they can take some stool samples to determine which it is. If
more folks called in from the restaurant, you will realize you may have
a potential outbreak on your hands. It could be something treatable with
an antibiotic, such as Shigella, or something that most of the time just
has to run it’s course, like Salmonella. It could be a norovirus, which
usually consists of something for nausea and plenty of fluids, possibly
an antiviral. A clinic will report it too the health department or the
DBPR, and they will do an investigation to make sure no one else gets
sick. Since he is a diabetic, he may react more violently than a normal
healthy person, and hopefully the clinic can give him something to ward
off any potentially dangerous outcomes. Good luck.

BG down a little
lot of burping but no real nausea
tummy muscles protesting "spit" injection some
I never eat that much anyway - tonight - 1/2 cup salad, 3 oz meat, 3 oz fried
mushrooms.
We’ll see what happens as the day goes on - thought those just starting might be
interested in my "travelog" of byetta.
