Going off Byetta

Elaine–

I started Byetta last June at 5 mcg and had great results, then moved up to
10 in July. My husband and I bought a house and moved, so in the few days of
the move I did not do any shots. When I started back up at 10, after being
off for about 5 days, I had a horrible allergic reaction. The injection site
swelled into a big hive (as big as a circle made with my thumbs and
forefingers together) that itched and I had tingles going from my hands up
my arms. It lasted about 5 hours. I thought I might get used to it, so I
took the shot a few more times and continued to get the welts. Called Byetta
customer service and they had not heard of the reaction and had no advice. I
went back to the 5 mcg pen to get re-acclimated, but continued to have
reactions at the injection site. No one could figure out why I did not have
them initially. Thye were so uncomfortable I quit the spit. I have no
allergies that I know of, but obviously something there was not right. I am

hoping the once a week shot comes out soon b/c I could deal with the
reaction once a week, but not twice a day–

PS–Anyone know of a reputable webiste to get Hoodia?

I don’t know if you want to consider it, but have you considered taking Zyrtec
(for allergies) and benedryl with the shots - IF you consider the byetta worth
it? One way to address a reaction is to go the root of the cause, the hystamine
    production.

Steph, You poor thing! What a horror story! I am not aware of a possible
‘once/wk shot’. That would be great. My question is, "If the 5 mcg works
for a month, why can’t a person stay on 5, and not advance to 10?" I am
requesting Lizzie tomorrow at my appt. w/my Doc. He’s a tough nut, so I’ll
just see. Of course, he’s not the only Endo in my part of the world. RE:
HOODIA, you can Google ‘natural dietary Hoodia Gordonii supplement’ supplied
by Dr. Bridget Chufo. She is a weight loss expert in my area with a great
reputation. She does a weekly radio spot. Has had much success. She also
works with diabetics. Check it out. A bit pricey, for out of pocket
    expense, but probably worth it.
Let me know how you make out. Good luck, Elaine

Steph and Elaine, Amylin is working on a once a week Byetta. Some estimate
2009 and some earlier, so it is in the works. I am going to a seminar put on by
Lilly and Amylin on March 28 and will find out as much as I can about the
future plans. The technology is already in hand and Byetta has been approved so

I am starting Month Two on Byetta.

    No side effects at all.

Small weight loss and reduced appetite, but nothing dramatic.

    Blood readings seem good.

Not the "wonder drug" I thought it was going to be, but seems like a
good tool to help keep BS under control.

Sure would be nice if they could come up with a pill form…
    :)

Thanks Pam, I will wait to unsubscribe until I see my endo in case he wants
me to go back on it but do something differently. Ev
