"Since I have started Byetta, I have discovered that I can no longer eat
several groups of foods, Dairy, meat, fish and even eggs really make me
yucky! I am still getting nausea in the morning and evenings, but as long
as I don't eat any of the above, at least I don't vomit. Anyone else
finding this? Guess I need to invest in a good vegan cookbook *G*"

Most people being perscribed byetta have had long term diabetes and are at
the upper end of conventional drug benefits. As a result the level of
complications is higher among them. One is the disruption of the digestion
system which often escapes attention because we are not in concious control
of it and there is no pain such as in feet. This causes a slow down in
stomach action and foods, especially those with large amounts of proteins,
stay longer to be digested. Using byetta adds to this slow down in stomach
action and is both a blessing to blunt hunger and a curse to cause gastric
side effects.
<!--more-->

One way to over come this effect is to eat protein that is partially broken
down already or are easily done so in the stomach. Among these are such
things as egg whites, some cheese products, whey isolates, yogurt, pickled
protein foods, meats marinated in "tenderizers" and/or cooked for long
periods of time, and soy and gluten plant protiens isolates, among other
possible sources. Eating any protein foods in smaller amounts helps also
and increased liquids at meals hastens stomach action as does also
thorough chewing to decrease particle size entering the stomach..

Hang in there, it really does get better. Just take some time to
think about what foods you can tolerate and portions. I have finally
(duh) figured out that I have to have a VERY small meal following by
spit and stop before i begin to feel full to keep from being sick. I
also stay away from milk, fats and most meat and that helps me. The
only real issue now is a acid stomach several hours after injection.
Guess I should try something for that.

Lettuce and leafy stuff just KILL me - sit in my gut and rot. I hate that,
too, because I love a good salad (Ruby Tuesday salad bar). I can do the
salad sans leaves.

Nothing makes me sick, but everything that sounds good to me is no longer what I
wanted once I started to eat it. Very frustrating.

HMM perhaps I am just overdoing it. I feel like i'm hardly eating
anything, guess thats compared to my pre-spit days. I just can't seem
to find the right stopping point to keep from feeling too full. its
pretty apparent that my body has no idea what hunger is and how to
signal it , lol

For me personally I have noticed that I can't eat a lot beef.
No more than about a hamburger patty size piece. I can still eat
salad, but not a large one. Anything makes me sick if I eat too much of
it, which I guess is a good thing since it keeps me from over
eating LOL

I noticed that for some reason part way into my meal I will start to
hiccup a few times. If I stop right there I am fine....but if I
keep eating until I notice that I feel full its too late already and I
end up sick.

for me, byetta has changed what I eat at breakfast... I used to grab a
banana and some dry cereal or a piece of toast... with byetta, I HAVE to have a
little protein... yogurt, pnut butter on toast or bagel, a slice of cheese....
something with some protein... I also learned that it's the amount I eat at
time too. If I eat too much, I'll get sick.... somedays Mexican does ok, other
times it doesn't....
