Hi Andrew,

I swear to Buddha that had Bernstein not talked about it on a web intereview I
would never have tried it. I had doubts, but I was willing to spend $30 plus
dollars to find out if it works. Hoodia does work for me.

I took one at noon and I had complete control over what I put in my mouth the
rest of the day. Breakfast is never a problem and this morning I had 1/4 cup
chicken salad and 1 cheese puff. At mid-morning I was at court and had an
Atkins drink because I can see clients and drink protein at the same time.
About 3 pm. I had 1/2 cup chicken salad and two cheese puffs. My attorney
supervior told me I'd ruined her because now she is eating what I eat and
enjoying it (grin). For dinner I had a vegetable salad with a little Italian
dressing and 5 drumettes with buffalo sauce. For dessert my husband made me one
of his wonderous cappuccinos.
<!--more-->

As you can tell, I don't eat much. I still don't lose weight and I still have
BG control issues, which I assume are from liver problems or a hidden infection
as it came on rapidly. I do my level best to drink 80 ounces of water a day
plus as much green tea as I can down as my chinese herbalist/acupuncturist/nurse
practitioner swears by it and I do seem to respond to it if I drink about 40
ounces a day. As you may be able to tell, sometimes my back teeth are floating.
(smile)

My chicken salad is highly spiced baked chicken with thinly sliced vegetables in
it and mayo and more seasonings. I don't eat more than about 200 calories of it
at a time and probably get about 3-4 grams of carbs per serving depending on
just how much vegetative matter is in that particular serving. I weigh and
measure everything that goes into my mouth except water and tea and diet soda -
which I attempt to limit because of sodium/water retention issues.

I have a number of friends who were desperately battling "the hunger" who are
taking it now and I've heard no complaints about wasting money. It is a cactus
from south africa that the natives used during times of famine because it
eliminated the suffering from hunger when they were starving.

Regards,
Marsha

HI Janie,

According to Bernstein he uses it with his patients who have hunger issues and
it works for about 85% of them. I saw some difference the first day but it has
taken a good month or so to have a consistent response. If I were hungry in the
morning too I'd probably take one upon arising as well, but I'm rarely hungry at
all before noon.

Like ritalin, which I take, I think thyroid takes awhile to get used to. At
first I used to think I'd climb walls with ritalin I realized it did cause my
little ADD/ADHD mind to focus better and now the only effect I have is increased
ability to concentrate.

Like you I am quite sensitive to medications and a little goes a long way. I am
often able to be treated with subclinical doseages.
<!--more-->

Bummer, my last BG reading is climbing again. Well, it is only the first day on
this, but I had my doubts about a one a day pill that worked more during a time
I don't need it than a time I do in terms of BG level. At least it is not like
when I injected the insulin and had my BG to UP 100 points!

Cheers!

Marsha, sounds like you had a good day. Way to go!

BTW, I'm curious about the hoodia. My weak spot is noon-4, and perhaps
the hoodia will help. Where do you find a good quality supply of it?

I tested low-normal for thyroid and tried low doses of different meds,
but none ever did anything to raise the level. Some made me feel like
peeling myself off the walls, so enough of that. I'm sensitive to meds
and a little goes a long way.

Janie,

The good news for the day is that since 10 a.m. my BG has not been over 169.
While that's way too high, it beats the heck out of 200+. So, today was a good
start for the new med. Apparently it really backs off later in the day so I
have to curtail night eating. I started taking the hoodia at noon and that's a
good appetite supressant so last night there was no night eating.

I am sometimes intrigued by how reactive my body is to food in general. After
eating 1 cup of field greens, 1 tablespoon of Italian dressing and 5 chicken
drumettes my BG zoomed up 24 points in an hour. There is not enough carb in
that meal to justify such a rise, which causes me even more to believe this is a
liver dump sort of thing.

Tomorrow I go in for blood tests and in a few days we will see what is up. My
<!--more-->
former N.P. asked me to have him do a lot of thyroid testing (I had a whole list
of tests) that she suggested be run because her thyroid medication has had a
profound effect on her BG.

I don't think we will find anything, but who knows, maybe he will and then we
can address that as well.

Regards,
Marsha

Marsha, this is great news. Your doc sounds wonderful. You did the right
thing to change.

It's good he's looking further into Byetta. You don't need to compound
your situation more, and it's obvious he has your best interests at heart.

I'm started Lantus when it first came out and have done well on it.
Still on it with the Byetta. I hope to get my weight down enough to get
off it it and just stay with the Byetta. We'll see. LOL

Great results, Janie!! Woo hoo! And 7 pounds down! Yippee!

Saw my MD today. He wants me to try something called Avandaryl first. Anyone
here heard of that?

We will be talking every couple of days since I monitor so closely and he will
see if that will work. He is also considering lantis and byetta if I need to go
there, but he is also a bit concerned about my existing issue of gasteroparesis
and my tend to be allergic to so many things and he is leery about my injecting
something again so soon. So, we shall see what happens. I told him I'd rather
try byetta than lantis if I have a choice. He said he is going to do more
research on byetta because he wants to be sure it would be the best thing for
me.

I'm really happy I went back to my real (tm) doctor. I can trust him and I have
<!--more-->
not felt okay about the care I have been getting since I tried to get a local
doctor.

Cheers!

WOW Janie, those are some impressive numbers. Congratulations!!! Bet
your feeling really well too!

Jeanna

Good news! Saw my doctor on Friday, and down 7 more pounds in the
last 3
months. A1C = 5.0, down from 5.5. He was amazed and complimented me
on
my effots to control my diabetes.(BG control is so much easier with
Byetta.) <s>

I started Byetta while with another doctor, so I asked him if he had
other patients on Byetta and he said, "No, but that may change."
We're
<!--more-->
all pioneers!
