Query:Must your stomach be completely empty?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2003

Must you stomach be completely empty before injecting Byetta?
I have a terrible habit of nibbling while I cook, so I have to be really
conscious of this or else I find that I have had some salad or other goodies
while I’m cooking. How long do you wait after eating a snack before injecting?

The representative from Byetta told my diabetic trainer that if you
take the shot and eat immediately your nausea is little to none. I
take my shot just as I sit down to eat and I do not get nausea. I may
get a little sometimes but nothing really bad. Also, I am only on the
5 pen, I do not know how I am going to feel on the 10 pen. The times
you get nausea, is it because you ate a little too much food? I think
that may be my problem when I get nausea.

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] faulty pen?

Thursday, September 25th, 2003

I was on lantus for 8 months. I was giving the injection in my
stomach. I was always getting bruises and it hurt. I actually had to
stop doing it, because it would take me over an hour to give myself the
shot. When I went to a new doctor and he gave me byetta 3 weeks ago.
I still could not give myself the shot. I was scared. My husband gave
me the shot in the top part of my arm, but on the bottom skin. I now
give it to myself in the arm. I put my arm on the table and reach to
the outside of my arm on the bottom. Just a poke. Don’t start too
far away from the skin.

Hope this helps

Dr. Visit

Good news! Saw my doctor on Friday, and down 7 more pounds in the last 3
months. A1C = 5.0, down from 5.5. He was amazed and complimented me on
my effots to control my diabetes.(BG control is so much easier with
Byetta.) <s>

I started Byetta while with another doctor, so I asked him if he had
other patients on Byetta and he said, "No, but that may change." We’re

faulty pen?

Saturday, September 20th, 2003

After a month on the 5 pen, I just started on the 10 pen and got the pen
from my mail-order pharmacy. It arrived in cold packs and seemed fine. But
it does one thing that worries me. (And the 5 pen never did this.)

After I finish injecting, pull out the needle, and start to reset the pen
for the next dose — turning the knob so the arrows pointing away from me
move in that direction — a lot of Byetta squirts out of the needle until
the horizontal arrow appears and I stop turning. I’m concerned that I’m not
getting my full dose, and my numbers haven’t been all that great, so I can’t
tell. And I’m concerned about wastage.

Anybody else have this problem, and did you find out anything about it?

Help and introduction

Saturday, September 20th, 2003

Hi everyone,

My name is Joan and I don’t know if I have sent in an introduvtion or
not. I have been a diabetic since 1988. I have several diabetic
complications such as heart disease.

I was recently put on byetta and I need some help. I am having
problems eating. I have developed reflux and am on prevacid. However,
I am having trouble eating. I can have very simple food like carbs.
Whenever I try to eat protein, I gte sick.

I know lizard spit has helped me regulate my sugar.

But what am I supposed to eat.

needy folks

Ruby, where did you find the woman who needed those supplies? I have
insulin and syringes that I want to give to someone who needs them.

Jeanna

She works with a friend of mine. My friend asked me if I knew
somewhere she could get supplies. I had this big ole bag of long
needles and like to use the short finer ones so I gave them to her.

I would be willing to pay postage if you would want to ship what you
have so I could keep her in supplies for a little while.
