Study Casts Doubt on Glycemic Index

Diets that distinguish between "good carbs" and "bad carbs," are not
an effective way of controlling blood sugar levels, a new study
suggests.

Although made popular by the South Beach Diet and others, the glycemic
index has never been fully embraced by most dietitians and remains a
point of debate among scientists.

Now, diabetes researcher Elizabeth Mayer-Davis of the University of
South Carolina says the use of the index should be ended altogether in
favor of more traditional methods of losing weight and reducing the

tingling sensations after injecting

Sunday, August 10th, 2003

After I inject, I often get tingling sensations all over, like a "head rush"
that’s all over my body. These sensations can last until well after I’ve
eaten my meal. They make me want to lie down because I feel kind of
unsteady.

Anybody else getting this? Or know what might be going on?

Ability to taste food deteriorates with Byetta

Saturday, August 9th, 2003

I have been on Byetta for about 3 1/2 months now. I am beginning to
notice a tremedous change in my ability to taste food. I think it is
related to Byetta because I could not be changing that rapidly just
because of age.

I have noticed that food seems to be bland for me although pre-Byetta
it would be quite rich in flavor. On Saturday night, I ordered Seafood
enchiladas which are usually quite flavorful with spices and cheese,
etc. I had to get Chipotle hot sauce on the side to make it it
palatable for me.
Also I seem to be more aware of the bitter taste than I did
pre-Byetta. On sunday morning, I could not finish my soup, because I
found the spices in them very bitter. THe person with me at the table
did not think it was that bitter and unpalatable.
In general, I have noticed that the meals I eat seem to be less and

New VA Program Targets Obesity, Diabetes

Friday, August 8th, 2003

Associated Press

February 26, 2006 04:06:29 PM PST

Aging veterans are getting reinforcements in their fight against the
twin threats of obesity and diabetes.

The Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services departments were
launching a campaign on Monday to promote nutrition, exercise,
education, preventive medicine and weight loss.

The VA says that of the 7.5 million veterans receiving its health
benefits, more than 70 percent are obese and one out of five have
diabetes. Diabetes can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease,
stroke, blindness and amputations.

I have to take food within 10 minutes of Le Spit

Thursday, August 7th, 2003

I learned Friday night that I am still, at the beginning of my 4th
month on Le Spit, being forced to take food very very soon after the
shot.

My Dad is on Byetta, too and he is visiting this weekened. We went
to shoot up at the same time (his side effects are totally different
than mine, go figure!) and dinner wasn’t served for 40 minutes.

I ate but I was down for the count most of the evening with the
feeling that my food was pushing back up into my esophagus in
waves. I never did vomit, but I did sleep it off.

Almost missed Battlestar Galactica, darn it!! :)
I am a little annoyed at seeing my food arrive in restaurants then

Should I cancel the prescription just in case….

Monday, August 4th, 2003

I am wondering, should I call my mail order insurance and cancel the
order we sent in for the 10 mg pens till we know for sure he will
switch to the 10 mg? He is on 5 and it is dropping his post meal
numbers a LOT. (woo hoo). Our only problem is that 220ish readings
in the mornings. He is scared that going to the 10 MG might drop
him like a hot potato and he is not too sure yet about how he feels
on the 5. He said he has not had nausea, but that he feels a
bit "off". He used to feel a bit off when he was going to start
dropping fast, he called it his ‘pre-shakes’. Now he says he gets
that a lot, but that he is still not low enough to treat.

I am wondering if I should call the insurance company and tell them
he is not sure about the increased dose, then see if I can get
another 5 mg pen from the doctor and see how it goes. I’d hate to
get a 3 month supply of the 10 pens and have to toss them or not use
