From what I have read Robin, it seems like the 5 for 30 days then up to
the 10. Although there are some who never progress past the 5 because
they are doing so well and don’t need the extra. Most of us probably
do.

Mellissa, not everyone goes to the 10. Some are doing fine on 5 and
their doctors opt to keep them there. Some have better blood glucose
control with the 5, so opt to stop the 10 and return to the 5. Most go
to the 10, but it’s all individualized.
Robin, I was on the 5 spit for two weeks, as I didn’t have any problems
with it. The recommendation is for one month, which is the supply you
get in one byetta pen, either 5 or 10mcg.
When you start on the 5 mcg dose what sort of testing schedule do you go on
regarding your daily series of BG tests?
Is the result fairly rapid - in terms of it works or it doesn’t?
I have noticed that glucotrol tends to have to build up in the system. I never
had a chance to find out with metformin because my immediate response is to
spend most of the day with my ol’ buddy, Ralf, when I get tangled up with
metformin. (Twice was enough.)
When you say numbers 5 10 are you talking Mailgrams ?

Marsha, I was testing a lot when I first started. My doc wanted
documentation. I tested in the morning, 2 hrs after breakfast, before
lunch, two hours after lunch, before dinner, two hours after dinner,
unless close to bedtime, then at bedtime.
The byetta worked immediately - no waiting. I consider it a miracle when
I can eat a piece of toast for breakfast and end up with an 85 two hours
later. All I had was a little nausea and tiredness with the first 5mcg
shot. Just mildly annoying, so I zoned out on the couch. For the 10mcg,
I had a little nausea at first, but a lot more tired feeling. I was
well-rested for two weeks. LOL Then I had a bout where I felt really
cold after the pre-dinner shot. Some folks on the blog felt this, too.
But that went away - I just feel slightly colder than pre-byetta. I love
my gila-spit.
yes yes yes!!!! I personally wasn’t implying in anyway to leave! just
thought maybe you were confused and NOT on a list you wanted to be on!
thats all.
Rebecca
Andrew Thank you, I was told I was on the wrong group If you could
recommend another I will leave I do like the people here so far, My
daughter did not realize this was a group for Byetta thought it was for
diabetics Thank you Dolores
Doloras, this group is for diabetics. And you are one.
I started this group when I started taking the brand new drug Byetta,
to make sure there was a place for folks taking this drug to compare
notes. Please feel free to stick around, unless we make you feel
uncomfortable in some way.
I am curious, do you know why your daughter pointed you to this group?
Finally, if you do wish to leave, I and others can recommend other
groups that would be perfect for a new diabetic to join and learn.

Andrew my pen is blue I take glucajamch < spelled wrong I Thank you
again for your kindness
Dolores
Dolores, we are talking about which pen you use. There are two pens,
because there are two doses of Byetta. The starter dose is 5
micrograms, and after a month most people move up to the full dose of
10 micrograms.
That reminds me, the cap to the 10 mcg pen is blue. Will someone tell
me what color the cap to the 5 mcg pen is? Is that how you tell them
apart?

Dolores,
by all means you are welcome to stay here. the list is primarily for those who
take byetta, but there are a few running around here that are not on it.if
nothing else it will help you make educated decisions if byetta becomes an
option for you, or if you feel you would do well on it it will allow you to be
informed when you talk to your doctor about it. knowledge is never wasted.
please, sit down, kick off your shoes and make yourself at home. and i promise,
you don’t have to eat mealworms and crickets
Dolores, this group is for diabetics, so you can stay, but since you
seem to want to leave, I recommend
But make sure you find a group that is in favor of "tight control" and
keeping your blood sugar as close to the normal range as possible.
If anyone else wants to recommend a group, you have my blessing to do
so.

Reba, he stared you on the 10? Did you have nausea?
Janie
Janie,
yes, he started me on the 10 and I had major nausea for a while… it was a
learning experience… one major change for me was protein at breakfast- I
used to have a banana and some dry cereal… but now I have to have a little
protein or I’ll be sick… some yogurt, peanut butter, cheese, something….
recently I chaperoned a youth retreat and since I didn’t know what would be for
breakfast, I was sure to pack a jar of peanut butter and some crackers….
Mine is blue, too… but the sticker on the pen itself is orange and white.
Maybe that’s what’s different?
Trish
Yep. Have you seen the new fast-acting OptiClick pen? It’s basically a
blue/gray negative of the Lantus pen and takes the exact same cart.
Someone’s gonna git kilt mistakin’ the two.
