And the hits just keep on coming…
Yet another saga of lizard spit success. (I got all my tests back
today) 7 mths total of metformin 500mg 2x daily, 2 mth of sporadic
and 1 mth of consistent use of byetta 5mg 2x daily (although that
changes with the next pen), poor to non existant diet control, and
unless restless sleep counts - zero exercise. A1c went fromm 11.4 to
7.2, BG from 320’s (highs near 400) to 110 (highs still in the 130
range) and I seem to have lost about 22 pounds somewhere (probably
lost it all during the weeks of abject fear staring at that pen
before I worked up the courage to stick myself with it).
Imagine how much more successful I can be over the next 6 months or
so, now that I’ve decided I really do have this stinking disease, and
have very very slowly started making a few lifestyle changes.
My only question today is - why didn’t our doctors tell us to buy the
pens AND stock shares? We could all be retired in addition to being
on the road to something sort of like healthy!
This post actually is meant to be inspiring, by the way. If I (the
laziest most unmotivated person in at least 3 counties, who resides
deep in denial-ville)can do this, the future really does look a
little brighter.

Great news….I am ending month 2 of spit use and my story will be pretty
much the same as yours except I am trying to watch my diet.
As for the stock tip, I believe many GPs, internists and family
practitioners are still NOT prescribing Byetta yet, in fact they don’t know
much about it even. I don’t think Amylin and Lilly are even reaching out to
these doctors.
I saw my endo tonight (for a thyroid issue) and I asked him about the trials
of Byetta XL (the once of week shot).
He said he heard about it and nothing more, so my guess is that the docs are
not made aware until FDA approval.

CONGRATULATIONS APRIL!!! And thanks for the encouragement for us all.
Byetta is helping me counter the effects of my daily prednisone.

April, I sometimes had restless sleeping with Byetta. Lately, I’ve been
eating a bran muffin, or some carb as nutritious, before I go to bed. I
thought I’d hit a high in the a.m, but, surprise! My readings were just
fine. Plus, I’ve been sleeping a lot better after my little snack. <g>
