Accu Check question

We were wondering if anyone here uses the software you can get from
Accu-Check for downloading your readings. Seems you can "beam" your
information from your machine to your computer, and it will keep track
of your numbers so you can better manage. I thought it might be great
for seeing patterns and such, and thought it might be nice to be able to
have that to show the doctor instead of the chicken scratch he does in
the little book he has.

Just curious if anyone has it, and if so, what do you think of it and is
it helping you manage and see patters in your BG?

Thanks so much!

I have used the Accu-Check Compass program on my PC as well as the Pocket
Compass on my Palm. I no longer use the program on my PC. Accu-Check now has
a web based version of the same thing. You will need one of their infrared
transceivers (it doesn’t work with the one built into my laptop) ($30). Be
aware that the infrared thingy is serial port only, but you can purchase one
of their serial to USB adapters for $10. You would need these whether you
used the Accu-Check Compass program or the online Diabetes Assistant tool.

The advantage of the online tool is that you can email reports to your
doctor. Actually, it emails a link which takes them to the prepared reports.
Only the reports that you specify is viewable. They can’t poke about your
log unless you specifically added that report.

I mentioned that I use the Pocket Compass on my Palm. So my routine is to
beam from my meter (Accu-Check Compact) to my Palm, add any information
(insulin, carbs, events, etc.) then I beam from the Palm to the online tool.
I can print the reports as easily from the online tool as from the PC
    program.

Be aware that the PC software will NOT interface with the online tool. Also,
the software does NOT come with the infrared thingy so you would have to buy
    it anyway.

So my advice would be to save the cost of the software, buy the infrared
thingy and use the free online tool.

    Roy,

Thanks so much, he is now looking in to this as a way to go instead
of the software. I have never been given an email address for the
doctor, but think it would be a wonderful way to go so they can keep
on top of his numbers together.

    thanks again!
Wonder if his doctor would go for it, or if she would rather see him
in person. (I’ll bet the clinic would want him to see the doctor in
person, as it would be more money in their pockets with an office
    visit).
