Information on Byetta

Found this on the net. Pretty interesting. I never heard of few things on
here.

Byetta

Drug Elimination:
o Primarily by glomerular filtration in the kidney

Drug-Drug Interactions:
o Byetta can slow gastric emptying, which may reduce the absorption of
oral drugs.
o Antibiotics and birth control, should be taken 1 hour before Byetta

injection.

Food-drug interactions:
o may reduce appetite, but no known food interactions at this time

Contraindications:
o Patients with allergies to any ingredient in Byetta should not take
this product.

Adverse Reactions:
o weight loss
o loss of appetite
o nausea
o vomiting
o diarrhea
o feeling jittery
o dizziness
o headache
o dyspepsia.

Precautions:
o should not be used in place of insulin.
o should not be used for those with type I diabetes.
o Those with end-stage renal disease should not use this product.

Byetta

Dosage and administration:
o Given as 5mcg twice daily as a SQ injection (morning and evening
meal)
o Injected within one hour before eating a meal
o Dose can be increased to 10mcg twice daily if desired effect not seen
o Should be stored in a refrigerator
o Discard pen if open more than 30 days from first use
o Do not take after a meal

Byetta

Efficacy:
o helps control glucose in those with type II diabetes who are also
taking metformin, a sulfonylurea or a combination of the two
