Pen ran out early.

Wednesday, June 25th, 2003

I am almost certain that my pen ran out at 58 doses. I track my usage
very carefully, including all primes/tests. I have a new one sitting
at home for tomorrow but didn’t bring it to work. I could not get
another dose out of my pen.

I called Amylin/Lilly and they are sending me a voucher for a new pen
and asked me a lot of relevant questions.

Has this ever happened to anyone? It seems odd, but I never miss a
dose, I started with dinner on Jan 5. and I primed 3x. They admit
there is supposed to be extra drug in the pen for priming.

So (violins cue now) I am stuck eating like a birdy (little and often)
and checking my BG’s all of the time until dinnertime.

Hi.. I’m Anna.

37 year old Type II diabetic, undiagnosed for several years. Finally
diagnosed in 2002. I take oral meds - metformin and starlix.
However, they werent enough and the doctor put me on the Byetta 5mcg
pen in December, then the 10mcg pen on January 20.

The side effects are killing me, particularly the nausea. I was still
experiencing it pretty badly with the 5mcg shot when the dosage was
increased. Now it’s like having morning sickness all over again. I
never actually vomit, but I sure feel like I’m going to - and that
feeling lasts for almost two hours.

When will it stop?? I have lost about 6 lbs so far, which is very
welcome, but it would be nice to be able to eat something without

Thought I’d introduce myself

Saturday, June 21st, 2003

Hi,

My name is Andi and I have a type 2 husband. We have known for about
2 years now. He is in poor control. His doctor has tried many
different combos of meds and his numbers get lower for a short time,
then spike back up and won’t come down. At his last appointment, his
doctor mentioned Byetta. I thought I would do some checking on the
internet and see what I could find out about this med, and here I am.

He won’t check in to it, as he has a needle phoebia and gets very
panicked at even the sight of a needle. He had a bad experience as a
child, and that memory has made any blood draw, IV or needle prick a
nightmare for him. He also was blessed with those tiny veins that you
can’t see or feel, compounding his problems. His endo mentioned this
form of med, and he really is not taking it well. His doctor really

High Carb Diet May Up Blood Pressure In Diabetics

Thursday, June 19th, 2003

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - In patients with type 2 diabetes, 14
weeks of a high-carbohydrate diet modestly raises blood pressure
compared to a diet high in monounsaturated fat, new study findings
indicate.

Studies evaluating the effects of high-carbohydrate and high-
monounsaturated fat diets have yielded conflicting results, Dr.
Abhimanyu Garg and colleagues note in their report, published in the
journal Diabetes Care. They suggest that these studies may have been
limited by their short duration.

Their own study compared the effect of two same-calorie diets: a high-
carbohydrate diet consisting of 55 percent of calories as
carbohydrate, 30 percent as fat, and 10 percent as monounsaturated
fat; and a high-monounsaturated fat diet deriving 40 percent of

Pain Free Injections
Anesthetic Skin Cream With Time-Release Feature Available

R. Mclean
November 2001

Ferndale Laboratories of Ferndale, Michigan, is now promoting its
time-released, deep penetration topical skin cream for purchase on the Web
and pharmacy shelves.

The non-prescription cream is used to numb the skin before procedures and
injections, and is also effective in treating minor cuts and abrasions. The
cream contains four percent lidocaine, a dental anesthetic typically used to
relieve mouth pain. The anesthetic is absorbed into the skin via the cream’s
liposomal delivery system. The system has the same chemical structure as

FDA Panel Recommends OTC Weight-Loss Pill

Thursday, June 12th, 2003

Associated Press

January 23, 2006 03:37:10 PM PST

Federal health advisers voted Monday to recommend over-the-counter
sales of a weight-loss pill now sold only with a prescription.

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare still needs final Food and Drug
Administration approval before it can sell a nonprescription version
of orlistat, a diet pill already marketed in prescription form as
Xenical. The FDA approved the prescription version of the fat-blocking
pill made by Roche in 1999.

A joint FDA advisory committee voted 11-3 to recommend approval late
Monday following a daylong hearing. The agency usually follows the
