Hi Rebecca,
I am very familiar with the drug Byetta (I’ve collaborated with Amylin
on
some early research). The drug is a synthetic version of the Gila
peptide
exendin-4 (it’s all made in the lab–not involving Gila monsters). Most
of
the research involving exendin-4 uses the synthetic version also. Only a
small bit of the research (including the research I’ve been involved
with)
involves using live Gila monsters.
