This article indicates that there is a Once-A-Week version of Byetta
in the offing. Anyone heard about this?

San Diego-based Amylin Pharmaceuticals, which had two diabetes drugs
approved for market this year, said yesterday it will build a $70

This is an article that is now on medscape. This is a web site for folk in
the health biz. It requires a one time registration and has never produced
any spam. It addresses some points that come up here on a regular basis
and is worth bookmarking for reference. It was written by a doc based on
his experience with using byetta and is written without technical jargon.

needles

Thursday, March 20th, 2003

I use the short needles on my insulin syringes. they are 28g 3/8". regular
insulin needles are 28g 1/2". i have 2 types of needles for m y byetta. (samples
given to me upon discharge from hospital) one is 30g 1/3" and the other is 31g
5/16". the last are probably as tiny a needle as you are gonna find. they are
BD ultra fine III short pen needles. for those who don’t know. the higher the
guage the smaller the diameter of the needle. I think they are slightly more
comfortable than the insulin needles.

Andrew, It’s Good to See Your Note

Thursday, March 20th, 2003

Are we to assume that your surgery was successful and you are
recovering rapidly? It’s very encouraging to see your messages, so
you are at least up and around a little.

We are interested in your Byetta experiment–did you stop all the meds
for several days to get a baseline for your BS situation? If so, are
you going to change your meds or restart the previous protocol? Keep
in mind that your body is seriously stressed by surgery, so your BG
readings are going to be all over the place for a while.

It’s good to have you back…

N.Y. Adopts Code to Monitor People with Diabetes

NEW YORK - Hoping to save hundreds of lives, New York adopted a health
code regulation Wednesday that will make it the first American city to
keep track of people with diabetes in much the same way it does with
patients infected with HIV or tuberculosis.

The city will occasionally use its database to prod diabetics to take
better care of themselves.

The policy breaks new ground because it involves the collection of
information about people who have a disease that is neither contagious
nor caused by an environmental toxin. It has also raised privacy

food preferences and more

Monday, March 17th, 2003

I have two questions for the group.

How long does everyone expect to be on Byetta? My doctor said that I
need to be on it until my body starts being more efficient and I am
not insulin resistant anymore. I was wondering if anyone on the list
was on Byetta and now off it.

Also, I am finding that my food preferences have changed
drasticallly since I started Byetta. Before Byetta I could not eat
anything white such as bread, pasta or rice. My body just couldn’t
metabolize it and I felt terrible if I had even a bite. I ate mostly
vegetables and beans and twice a week or so I ate chicken. I don’t
eat any other meat. Since I have been on Byetta, I can’t eat beans,
so I have had to up my chicken to get more protein. I had pasta the
other night and felt okay. I didn’t eat that much, but I was fine. I
