HI, Andrew, and Happy New Year, everyone! Yes, I’m still a very happy
Byetta camper. My doctor upped me to the 10 pen in the AM, and the 5 pen
in the PM 3 days ago (after 1 month on the 5), and so far so good. He
wants me to take that dosage for 2 weeks and then send him a report on
my blood sugars. I’m assuming I’ll go on the 10 pen full time after
that, since I’m doing very well, with little or no side effects. I do
have a headache this morning, but I get sinus headaches all the time, so
I can’t blame it on the Byetta. I’ve lost a total of 8 pounds since I
started, but I feel like I’ve lost a lot more, since my jeans are all
fitting much looser, and I can get into 2 pairs that were way too tight
    a couple of months ago.

I still take two Glucophage (500 XR) in the AM, and one at bedtime, but
I’ve come off of all the other meds (Glucotrol, Starlix, Actos). My
sugars have been so much better that I have to actually stare at the

meter sometimes to convince myself it’s really my number! It’s only gone
over 200 once this last couple of weeks, and that’s when I really oinked
out (including a banana), and knew better.

My appetite has decreased so much that I have to remind myself to eat
lunch half the time. I have had a couple of lows (40s and 50s), usually
in the evenings if I don’t eat enough at supper, and don’t care too much
for them. I hate forcing myself to eat when I’m so full, but thank God
I’ve learned to eat a small amount of some carb with my supper (small
potato, 1/3 cup of brown rice, beans) and then it doesn’t happen.

I don’t really get the nausea bad, sometimes very minor twinges, and I
keep the Seabands on my wrists or in my pocket so it’s never gotten bad
at all. All in all, I feel so fortunate to have found Byetta, this list,
the blog, and a great doc that is willing to work with me. I feel it
will be a very blessed, healthier new year for a whole bunch of folks
because of this wonderful Gila Monster. :-)
    Cheryl from Florida

I wanted to be the first to wish everyone a happy new year, but
    Tip_And_Melissa beat me to it.

So is everyone still happy with Byetta, if you are still taking it? I
will still be off work this week, and will be posting more experiment
    results.

For today, I have to help clean the house, and replace a bathroom
faucet. Good thing that housework counts as exercise, eh?

    Andrew and all,

I am on Byetta for the fifth month and have very good success. My biggest
problem is my absolute addiction to chocolate and sweets. I hope the new
year will be an incentive to once again swear off chocolate. I know my
weight would go down and my sugars would be great. When I behave with my
eating and walk up to 3 miles daily (45 minutes) and take the 10 mg of
Byetta, my sugars have been as low as 104 and I am eating well and happy.
When I misbehave, but not too horribly, my sugars are 160 to 215; without
Byetta and without the insulin my sugars were as high as 465, usually around
28-325. SO, IF I behave and do what is right, I am in good shape; but if If
would have behaved in my life before diabetes, I wouldn’t be diabetic. The
new year is always a happy time for me because it is a clean slate to start
all over taking the good and the bad into account from the prior years.

Once again, wishing you well and Happy New Year.

loss since i am barely getting in 500 cals a day and no more than 5-10 carbs.
just can’t handle it. but this is only day 3 on the 10mcg. so i am sure it will
get better from here. am gonna hang in there anyway.Note to self… don’t even

    Andrea

I wanted to be the first to wish everyone a happy new year, but
    Tip_And_Melissa beat me to it.

So is everyone still happy with Byetta, if you are still taking it? I
will still be off work this week, and will be posting more experiment
    results.

For today, I have to help clean the house, and replace a bathroom
faucet. Good thing that housework counts as exercise, eh?

    Sorry, Andrew…..I love anchovies too.

Andrea, I have some chocolate covered anchovies I can send you. They
might help with the chocolate addiction.

i know this wasn’t directed at me, but i am having similar issues. if i didn’t
force myselt to eat i would go days at a time without any intake.

I am curious why you force yourself to eat if you are not hungry. If I
am not hungry, I don’t eat, and have had no ill effects. Does eating
at set times help you control your sugar levels?

Hi, Andrew. I only force myself to eat something if my blood sugar
levels are dropping, as in the 60’s or 50’s. I know I have to eat
something then, but a lot of times, I’m just not hungry. I’m thinking of
getting some orange juice to keep around for those times, but they seem
to be getting fewer and fewer, as my sugar levels are finally evening
    out. :-)
My doctor told me to expect a few highs and lows, but not to get too
upset over them, as long as the vast majority of the blood sugars are in
the normal range (which they have been). I love this stuff! For the
first time in a long time I feel healthy and "normal". :-)

Glad things are working out for you. Glad that you don’t seem to beat

yourself up if you have a spike. And thanks for the complement on the
    list.

HI, Annie. For the most part, I have to force myself to eat only when my
blood sugars are running too low. But there are lots of times I’d just
as soon not eat as eat, which to me is a small miracle. At those times,
I just eat a wee bit, just to keep from going low. I hate lows, real
bummers. But thank God they are getting fewer and farther between, and
overall I’m doing extremely well! :-)
