Introduction of me ;-)

Hi everyone,

I started taking Byetta 3 weeks ago. I have had no side effects so far
although I am only taking the 5 unit dose, In a week I go up to 10. My
Dr. and I hope this will work for me as I have been very resistent to
other drugs we have tried. Except Amaryl, which worked too well and
kept giving me low BS in the afternoons. When I started Byetta the Dr.
took me off Amaryl. I am still on 1000 mg Metaformin and 8 mg Avandia
a day. I hope I can get off, or at least lower those eventually. I
have noticed much more even BS levels with Byetta and have even lost
10 lbs (a drop in the bucket, but it’s going in the right
direction!).

I have been lurking in the other Byetta group just to find out about
others and their experiences. I posted there once to

introduce myself, like I am here, got slapped down, and so I never
spoke up again. It’s a shame. I’m hoping things are less structured
here. I’m all for staying on topic, afterall, it’s why we are all
here, but I’d like to get to know folks too. Sometimes this can be a
lonely, isolating disease.

I’ve had Type2 since 2001 but had it both times I was
pregnant before that. Once at 18 and once at 22 yrs. That was many
moons ago as I have just turned 49. Anyway, just wanted to say "Hey!"

    Hello!
I just signed up for this site this week.
I will go on Byetta on my next DR. visit.
Would you tell me what to expect.
You said you lost 10 lbs.
    Are you overweight?
Are you good at keeping on a diabetic diet?
    I’m very much like you.
    50 years old.
    Gestational diabetic.
Was fine until about 5 years ago.
    Then began oral meds.
    Just began insulin & Actos,
    as chemotherapy for breast cancer
threw my sugars into a tail spin!

    Sugars have been better.
    Dr. says we’ll try Byetta.
    Do you like it?

    hi all,
i too was on the other byetta group{a very odd place} and got "yelled" at and
belittled both times i posted so i’m glad to be here. i’m just finishing my
first week of byetta10 and most of the side effects are going away.
unfortunately, my appetite is returning. i was very willing to have a slight
head ache and nausea if it allowed me to lose weight! i also lost about 10 lbs,
with 90 to go! debras post today was the first one i have gotten from this
group. i’ve learned tons of info from a diabetes website forum if anyone is
interested. i also got my welcome kit last week. it took almost a month to get
    it. brenda

    Brenda-
Were you on insulin before or oral meds?
How did your sugars respond to the Byetta?
I’m sorry to hear about the weight loss slowing.
That’s what I was counting on.
I need to lose 70 more lbs.
    Thanks-

    Hi All,
I’m another escapee from the other list. After taking all I could take from the
control freak list mom I let her know how I felt, in private, She doesn’t take
well to criticism and booted me off the list, lol. Anyway, I’m glad you are all
here. I have been on Byetta for about a month and a half. I had a week break
between the 5 and 10 mcg due to two faulty pens. I had no side effects from the
5mcg, but was sick for the first week of the 10mcgs. My appetite is diminished
some and I’m down 5.5 lbs, but am disappointed that it is not more. The jury is
still out about how well it is reducing my bgs, but I’m willing to hang on at
least until my next A1C. How is everyone else doing?

    Andrew -
    Good name.
    My son’s name!
    I should have phrased it
    differently about the "diabetic diet".
I wanted to know if she was overweight like me
& if she adheres to whatever her food plan is to
    maintain good blood sugar values
    or does she have "cheat"
    like I do many times.
    Does that make it clearer?
    Thanks.
    Deb L.

    Welcome to the list.

If you will allow other folks to chime in, I am taking Byetta and like
it. I don’t think I have lost any weight due to Byetta, because I have
lost a lot just from exercising and eating better.

You ask about a diabetic diet. I have heard many people say there is
no such thing, and I think they mean that there is no one-size fits
all solution. We each need to find what causes havoc with our sugar
    levels.

Sounds like there are quite a few of us who joined this list after the rantings
on the other list :-) I have been taking the Byetta since the beginning of July, but I don’t think it
is working anymore. My numbers are back up into the 400s despite my insulin dose
being even higher than pre-Byetta. My fasting numbers are in the 300s. It is so
frustrating. I am continuing to take it but I am not seeing any benefits right
now. Initially it was giving me lows. I am really glad that that is no longer
happening, but am disheartened at the current situation. I have an appt. with my
endo. on Thursday because they are concerned about my high numbers. Hopefully
they will have some ideas for me. Has anyone else experienced their numbers
    going back up?

yeppers, i take metformin, actos and glyburide. my doctor didn’t change any of
my meds. i go back to her this tuesday, thyen she might do something. before
byetta my A1c was 6.5, with a.m. bs’s being 120-150. after the first shot of
byetta my sugars are under 100 in the morning and stay in the 80’s unless i
really pig out and then its totally my fault for higher numbers.

Leslie, I recently started on 10mcg and find that I feel tired after the
injections. But it is slowly passing, and I’m getting back the energy I
    had with 5mcg.

I still have to be very diligent with what I eat, but that comes with
the territory. I’ve lost 15 pounds so far, which is a miracle since
before Byetta, it took me eating 600-800 calories and feeling starved
all the time to lose anything. And not anything close to 15 pounds.

I was on a lot of insulin, and am now only taking 7 units of Lantus in
the pm and Humalog on demand when I eat something that shoots my glucose
up. This is a far cry from 30 units of Lantus and up to 60 units of
humalog a day before Byetta. Insulin makes me hungry and makes me gain
    weight. Counter-productive.

  10. Arron Astrid Says:

    Leslie-
    Did I understand you?
You talk Byetta & Lantus & Humalog?
I will go on Byetta next Dr. visit.
I’m trying to find out all I can before.
Good for you on the 15 lb weight loss!!!
How long did that take you?

Leslie, yes, I take Byetta with Lantus and Humalog. I take 7 units of
Lantus in the evening. I test 2 hrs after eating and if my glucose is
high, I take a little of Humalog, usually 2-4 units. I used to sometimes
take 20 units before meals. I’m trying to get my readings as close to
normal as possible. :) I’ve been on Byetta only three weeks and have had
to take Humalog only a few times.

I was doing so well on the 5mcg, no problems other than the tiredness
and a little nausea after the first injection, that we went to the 10mcg
after 10 days. Have more tiredness, but it’s getting better.

I guess there is some confusion about who is posting what, lol. I believe it
